Reiki

"The deeper the sorrow that carves into your being, the more joy you can contain. Joy and sorrow are inseparable"
Kahlil Gibran
What is it?
Reiki has been traced back about
10,000 years where it was (and still is) used in Tibet and the
techniques recorded in ancient Sanskrit writings. Pronounced (“ray –
key”) it comes from the Japanese “Rei” meaning Universal and “ Ki” life
energy – the universal life energy is around us and flows through us and
every living being. Rediscovered in the last century by Dr. Mikao Usui
and introduced into the Westem World in the mid 1970's this ancient
buddhist healing art is a safe, natural, hands-on energy therapy which
promotes and accelerates the body's own healing abilities and it
operates on all levels, physical, mental and emotional.
Wearing light clothing you lie on a
couch or sit on a chair and the therapist’s hands are placed in a
sequence of positions directing the energy into the body of the
receiver. The hand positions are held in place for several minutes. If
you prefer, Reiki can be given with no contact. The therapist is used as
a channel to conduct the Universal Life Energy, which instantly flows
into the receiver with each treatment. Your body only takes the amount
of energy it needs, or can cope with at the time so you can’t overdo it.
Reiki treats the cause rather than the symptoms.
The treatment is
a highly relaxing experience which many people describe as "being in the
present". You may feel various sensations such as heat, cold or tingling
in certain parts of your body or you may simply fall into a "reiki
slumber".
What can it
alleviate?
